John Carter Teaser Falls Short

When Disney first announced they were adapting Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom series for the big screen expectations went through the roof. Science Fiction fans around the internet immediately assumed the films would draw inspiration from the beautiful and iconic artwork, sampled above, of Frank Frazetta. Frazetta's work perfectly conveys the epic scale of the series, it's art that pumps you up for an adventure across strange lands populated by exotic and beautiful alien women. Unfortunately, the first teaser poster has been released and fails to conjure up any of the aforementioned so closely associated with the series, womps. While this is only the first teaser poster in what is sure to be a long marketing campaign, the film releases in March 2012, it's hard to ignore how far off the mark the aesthetic feels. This poster is so generic it could just as well be advertising a new season of Friday Night Lights. The first novel, A Princess of Mars, is available via Project Gutenberg.
